Can you guess where this picture was taken?
When thinking back about restrictions that have been in place due to Covid your mind instantly takes you back to that time and place where you felt absolute joy.
For me, that was the first time we went to the Forrest of Dean. The picture if you had not guessed it was taken at Symonds Yat in the Wye valley over looking the river Wye.
We (my wife and i) like many outdoor loving people have always had dogs in our family. Like most holidays away for us mean packing up the car; bikes, dogs and all, and traveling to picturesque parts of the UK. As keen walkers we loved getting out and exploring the many paths and tracks that pass through the Forrest of Dean and the many coffee shops and pubs along the way.
As a mountain bike rider i always enjoy checking out the local trails on our visits. Here i was drawn immediate to the Cannop Cycle Centre after reading so many great reviews. While comfortable on most Blue and Red trails, the flowing final sections of the blue graded Verderers trail blew my mind. Flowy with sections of high speed, switchbacks and rapid gradient made that a trail like no other i had rode to that point. It defiantly passed the "worth the pedal up" test.
The scale of the Forest and Valleys makes the area endless to explore and dramatic in equal measure. To cap of a great week away, a canoe trip down the rive Wye was superb and really makes you realise the gradient in the Valley. Even if our spaniel made many attempts to over turn the Canoe in her pursuit to play with the water life.
...We have been back many times since!
Looking for somewhere to stay? We can fully recommend Forrest of Dean Lodges based centrally just outside Coleford. Great facilities, central location and you can pedal to the trails.
